HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK: WEBSTER SCHROEDER VS. CHURCHVILLE-CHILI

For the next several months, the Rochester Americans will be front and center of the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that features the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area. 

The High School Game of the Week includes the Churchville Chili Saints (2-12-0) facing the first-placed Webster Schroeder Warriors (11-0-0) on Tuesday, January 20 for a 6:00 p.m. puck drop at Webster Ice Arena.

The Saints, who are playing their second game in as many days after dropping a 4-2 score Monday, are winless (0-9-0) dating back to Dec. 13 while being outscored 31-20 over that same span. On the season, Churchville-Chili has been held to three or fewer goals in nine of its 14 games.

Webster Schroeder, who also claimed the first meeting earlier this season by a 5-1 score, has six wins against the Saints while Churchville-Chili has three victories since the start of the 2020-21 campaign. Over the past nine contests in the head-to-head series, the Warriors have outshot the Saints 302-198 while holding them under 30 shots in each contest, which includes 13 in each of the last two.

Entering Monday’s contest, five different Saints had posted double digits in points led by Brody Gallagher’s 17 whereas Cooper Lass and Grayson Galliford have a team-leading 10 goals and 11 assists, respectively. Anthony Indiano (13) and Evan Girolamo (11) have also reached the 10-plus point-plateau.

Joseph Pellegrino (2), Grady Galliford (1), Michael Fedele (1), and Samuel Coccia (1) have scored this season for Churchville-Chili before the meeting with Penfield Central on Monday evening.

Netminders Liam Magri (1-7-0) and Joshua Felluca (1-3-0) both have earned one win in the goal crease for the Saints while Caleb Paitek made 29 saves in one appearance.

Brian Young and Austin Kuntz are co-head coaches of Churchville-Chili while James Wisner and Anthony Depetres are serving as assistants. Kid Toombs is the equipment manager.

The Warriors begin Tuesday atop Section V with a perfect 11-0-0 mark while allowing just 11 goals and scoring 57 tallies through their first 11 games of the campaign. Since the start of the 2022-23 season, Webster Schroeder has posted a 50-19-2 record.

Through 11 games this season, 15 different Webster Schroeder skaters have found the back of the net while 20 have notched at least one point. Scott Nicholas tops the Warriors in both goals (11) and points (19) while Connor Scott (12) and Anthony Pusateri (10) both have double figures in assists.

Tyler Splain (8), Aiden Spakoski (5), Nick Johnson (4), AJ Gervaise (4), Niko Schouten (4), Cody Preston (3), and Owen Baldwin (2) all have notched multiple goals this season.

Goaltenders Cole Hudson (7-0-0) and Julian McMahon (4-0-0) both have winning records in-between the pipes for Webster Schroeder with each plotting three and one shutout, respectively. Adam Griffin has yet to make his season debut.

Head coach David Broussard leads the Warriors whereas Jason Mordaci and Ryan Wilson serve as assistants.
