HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK: PORTSIDE VS. PITTSFORD
Dec 15, 2025For the next several months, the Rochester Americans will be front and center of the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that features the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.
The High School Game of the Week features the Portside Royals (0-4-1) meeting the Pittsford Panthers (6-0-1) on Tuesday, December 16 at 6:00 p.m. at Tim Horton’s Iceplex.
The Panthers, who have won three straight following a 4-4 tie back on Dec.9, have begun the 2025-26 slate with a 6-0-1 mark. Pittsford went 15-3-2 last season and posted a 10-1-1 mark since the turn of the New Year.
Through seven games this season, 18 different Pittsford skaters have notched at least one point while 11 have found the back of the net.
After posting a team-leading 15 assists and 31 points in 2024-25, David Pollard returns again this season, topping all Panthers in goals (12), assists (9), and points (21) through seven games. Peter Yarovinsky (13), Charles Hezel (13), Evan Weiner (10), and Bear Wehrheim (10) all have reached double digits in points while Kelan Ahern and Ryan Schmalstitch (9) are one away from reaching the plateau.
Pittsford netminder Aiden Stauffer (4-0-1) has allowed only nine goals through five appearances while posting a 1.89 goals-against-average. David Jones shows a 2-0-1 record, which included a 9-0 shutout-win on Dec. 9 against Brighton/HFL/Eastridge/Gananda.
Head coach Rory Foster leads the Panthers while being joined by assistant Tom Maier and goaltending coach Luke Lovelys. Patrick Irving is the athletic director for Pittsford.
Portside comes into the tilt searching for its first win of the season as they are 0-4-1 through its first five games of the campaign. The Royals, who went 12-8-0 in 2024-25, which included a 7-2-0 mark on the road, have scored 13 goals this season, second fewest amongst all Section V teams.
Wyatt Pentz paces all Royals in both goals (3) and points (4), respectively, while Zachary Haines, Andrew Lamberton, Samuel Schultz, Sam Cedeno, and Anthony Ferris have each totaled one. Ryan Henchen (3) and Max Clark (2) have each plotted multiple helpers.
Portside has used the goaltending duo of Zachary Miceli (0-1-1) and Nico Cenname (0-2-0) through the first four games of the slate. The two netminders have 99 saves and a 4.00 goals-against-average.
After serving as an assistant coach in 2024-25, Zac Case takes over the reins from Bill McGrath while Jim Gullen and goaltender coach Allen Barton both return. Jay Uebelacker is in his first season as an assistant coaching role with Portside.
