THIRD-PERIOD EXPLOSION SENDS VICTOR PAST FAIRPORT

The Victor Blue Devils exploded for four straight unanswered goals in the third period to turn a 2-1 deficit into a decisive 5-2 win over the Fairport Raiders in Tuesday’s season-opener between the Section V rivals at Rochester Ice Center.

GAME SUMMARY

Senior forward Colin McNamara led the Blue Devils with a three-point night (1+2) while Simon Kowal, Charlie Romeis and Aiden Cox-Bagley each scored to round out the scoring for the defending Section V Class A champions.

 

Cam Beal earned the win between the pipes, stopping 13 of the 15 shots he faced to pick up his first win of the season.

 

Alex Goldan and Dylan Harvey were the goal-scorers for Fairport, which also received a 32-save effort from goaltender McLean Ralston.

 

Goldan opened the scoring just 3:23 into the contest to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead they would hold for the duration of the first period.

 

McNamara answered for Victor at 7:43 of the second before Harvey converted on the power-play to restore the one-goal lead for Fairport.

 

The Blue Devils took control of the game in the final frame, scoring twice in a span of 1:27 with goals from Kowal and Cox-Bagley to take a 3-2 lead.

 

Romeis converted on a penalty shot opportunity for his first of the season with 4:31 remaining in the third period before McNamara added his second of the game 25 seconds later into any empty net to seal the 5-2 win for Victor.
