SABRES SELECT SAVOIE WITH NINTH OVERALL PICK IN 2022 NHL DRAFT

With the ninth-overall selection in the 2022 NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres have selected center Matthew Savoie.

The 5-foot-9, 175-pound native of St. Albert, Alberta recorded 90 points (35+55) in 65 games for the Winnipeg ICE of the WHL.

He was ranked No. 4 among North American-based skaters by NHL Central Scouting. 

Savoie led all WHL rookies and ranked seventh in the league in points to help the Winnipeg ICE top the overall league standings in 2021-22.

He averaged more than a point per game in the 2022 WHL playoffs to help Winnipeg advance to the third round (with 12 points (6+6) in 10 games.

Savoie was named to USHL All-Rookie Team in 2020-21 after finishing fifth in rookie scoring with 38 points (21+17) in 34 games for the Dubuque Saints.

He also Skated for Canada White at the 2019 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge where he tied for the team lead in scoring with 6 points (1+5) in six games played.
