Pittis piled up 246 points in 204 career games with the Amerks
Sep 2, 2026The Rochester Jr. Americans, New York state’s largest youth hockey organization, have named Domenic Pittis, a 2020 Rochester Americans Hall of Fame inductee, as the organization's new general manager.
Pittis returns to Rochester after one of the most decorated careers in Amerks franchise history. In 204 career games with the Amerks, he recorded 246 points. Winner of the John B. Sollenberger Trophy as the league’s top scorer in the 1998-99 season, Pittis led the Amerks to back-to-back Calder Cup Finals in 1999 and 2000. He played 86 NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers and Nashville Predators over a 19-year playing career that also included two Swiss League championships. After retiring, Pittis served as a player development coach with the Calgary Flames and as an assistant coach with the former AHL Stockton Heat. Most recently, he was director of hockey for St. Mary’s High School, a college preparatory school in Stockton, California.
“Returning to Rochester and being a part of this hockey community means a lot to me,” said Pittis. “My time with the Amerks has always held a special place in my career, and I look forward to helping the Jr. Amerks develop young players who love the game of hockey as much as I do.”
Pittis succeeds fellow Amerks alumnus Francois Methot, who recently accepted a position as head coach of the PWHL’s Boston Fleet. As general manager, Pittis will oversee hockey development across the Jr. Amerks’ Tier I/AAA, travel, girls and house programs. This includes leading the organization’s player development plan, supporting coaches and fostering player advancement beyond youth hockey.
“Domenic is the right person to lead the next chapter of Jr. Amerks hockey,” said Robyn MacBride, President of the Jr. Amerks Board of Directors. “He knows this community, and he has spent years teaching the game of hockey at the highest levels. Our goal is to develop great players who love the game and reach their full potential on and off the ice. Domenic shares our vision, and we’re proud to welcome him back to Rochester.”
The Jr. Amerks player development program is built so every player, from first-time skater to Tier I prospect, follows the same development plan adapted to their age and skill level. On-ice skills sessions and strength and conditioning are built into every season to develop strong, confident and skilled athletes. As general manager, Pittis will support nearly 1,000 players and 450 coaches and managers across Jr. Amerks teams.
