NAPPI AND BARBATO'S THREE-POINT NIGHT HELPS LAKERS TO 8-0 WIN

For the next several months, the Rochester Americans will be front and center of the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that featured the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area. 

Forwards Jess Nappi (3+0) and Lucy Barbato (2+1) both tallied three-point efforts on Wednesday to help the Webster Lakers (1-1-0) record an 8-0 win over Williamsville at Webster Ice Arena.

With the victory, the Lakers rebounded following their opening contest, which saw them suffer a 6-0 shutout loss versus Skaneateles on Dec. 4. The two clubs will complete their season-series as they meet again on Monday evening.

Image (9).jpegAlong with Nappi and Barbato each plotting a multi-point game, captain Eve Pagano tallied a pair of assists in the win for the Lakers. Ella Buss, Lucy Sykes, and Molly Meyer, a St. Bonaventure University commit for girls’ lacrosse, all notched one goal apiece. Kenzie Beale, Briella Catalano-Steele, and Viv Kinkead closed out the scoring by adding an assist. Goaltender Mia Wambach made 10 saves to earn the shutout win while evening her record on the season to 1-1-0.

Webster controlled much of the play in the opening period as they finished the frame with a commanding 12-2 shot-advantage while also holding a two-goal lead.

The Lakers broke the scoreless tilt with 3:55 remaining in the opening period as Buss was setup on a wrap-around goal from Beale before Sykes notched an unassisted tally three minutes later.

Williamsville had an early push in the second period to cut into the deficit, but Nappi made it a 3-0 lead with 9:30 on the clock.

Image (8).jpegBarbato netted her first of the contest with just under six minutes left in the stanza from Pagano only to have Nappi find the back of the net for her second less than a minute later.

During the final minute of the second period, Webster expanded its 5-0 lead even further as Barbato and Meyer notched goals from Catalano-Steel and Barbato and Pagano, respectively.

To close out the 8-0 shutout victory, Nappi complete her hat trick with 71 seconds left in regulation, which earned her recognition as the Player of the Game.

Webster will look to make it two straight as they face Skaneateles on Monday, Dec. 15 at the Skaneateles YMCA & Community Center for a 6:30 p.m. matchup.
