HONORARY CAPTAIN OF THE GAME PROGRAM RETURNS FOR SEVENTH SEASON IN 2026-27
Amerks renew partnership with Golisano Children’s for popular community program
Nov 5, 2026The Rochester Americans, in collaboration with University of Rochester Medicine Golisano Children’s, announced the return of the Honorary Captain of the Game program for the 2026-27 season.
"Many of our patients spend far more time in exam rooms or hospital beds than any child should, which is why the Honorary Captain program is so meaningful,” said Jill Halterman, MD, MPH, Chair of the Department of Pediatrics and Physician-in-Chief of Golisano Children’s. “Coming out onto the ice with an entire arena cheering them on, these children have a chance to be celebrated for who they are, not defined by their diagnosis. We’re so grateful to the Amerks for this special partnership and the joy it brings to our patients and families.”
The program, which returns for its seventh season, offers the unique opportunity of a lifetime for one child to take the ice with the Amerks and stand alongside the starting lineup during the national anthem prior to puck-drop. Each participant will also have the chance to watch pre-game warm-ups from either the team bench or penalty box, enjoy the game with family from the comfort of a luxury suite and will be treated to a special meet and greet with Amerks Hall of Famer Jody Gage and select players following the game. In addition, participants will be gifted with their very own custom Amerks jersey as well as other team merchandise.
As part of the continued partnership, each Honorary Captain will be chosen by Golisano Children’s and will be contacted by a UR Medicine representative once selections have been made.
The program returns on Friday, Nov. 13 when the Amerks host the Laval Rocket at The Blue Cross Arena and will run repeatedly on predetermined dates each month throughout the 2026-27 regular season.
The schedule for the Honorary Captain of the Game program is as follows:
- Friday, Nov. 13 vs. Laval
- Friday, Dec. 18 vs. Toronto
- Friday, Jan. 22 vs. Charlotte
- Saturday, Feb. 13 vs. Providence
