Dec 12, 2023

For the next several weeks, the Rochester Americans will be front and center on the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that features the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.

This week’s High School Game of the Week features the Victor Blue Devils (0-2-1) hosting the defending Section V Class B champion Webster Schroeder Warriors (3-1-0) on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at Rochester Ice Center.

The Warriors, who posted a 10-9-1 record in MCPSAC D2 last season, have recorded three consecutive victories since dropping a 4-3 score to open their campaign. Webster Schroeder dropped a 3-1 contest in 2022-23 against the Blue Devils after they tallied the game’s first goal on Jan. 4. Victor Central outshot the Warriors 46-13.

Dating back to the 2017-18 season, the Warriors have posted a 2-4-0 record against Victor with its last win coming on Feb. 9, 2021, a 2-1 overtime victory.

Webster Schroeder returns its top three scorers from last season in TJ Swinson, Nicholas Selitto and Nolan Gamble. Swinson and Selitto each have five goals and nine and eight points, respectively, through four games while Gamble’s six points (2+4) are third-most amongst all Warriors.

Connor Ambeau (2-0-0) and Mike Cerone (1-1-0) both split the goaltending duties for Webster Schroeder through its first four games. Cole Hudson and Julian McMahon are both on the roster but have not seen any action in the crease.

The Warriors are led by head coach David Broussard and assistant coaches Jason Mordaci and Ryan Wilson.

Victor enters the contest showing an 0-2-1 record through its first three games of the season. The Blue Devils have combined for a 32-5-3 mark over the last two campaigns. They have logged double digits in wins and less than four regulation losses every year since 2018-19.

The Blue Devils top six-point getters in 2023-24 have returned from last year’s squad. Caleb Clark’s team-best five assists lead the club while Tanner Radogna, Simon Kowal and Chris Donnelly all have two goals. Charlie Seiler (1+1) and Eli Weingart (1+0) each found the back of the opposition’s net.

Goaltender junior Nathan MacBride has made 76 saves in three appearances while sophomore Carson Janto has not seen any playing time yet as he is the only other netminder on the roster.

Victor is led by reigning Section V Class A Coach of the Year Michael Ferreri and assistant coaches Bryan Kavanaugh, Trevor Sousa, Jason Rich, Brian Bailey.

Following tonight’s matchup, Webster Schroeder will face-off with the cross-town rival Thomas Titans in the battle of Webster on Wednesday, Dec. 20 at Webster Ice Arena while Victor heads to Webster Ice Arena to take on the Titans on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 3:00 p.m.
