HIGH SCHOOL GAME OF THE WEEK: CHURCHVILLE-CHILI VS. WFL

For the last several weeks, the Rochester Americans have once again been front and center on the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that features the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area.

 

TEAM ROSTERS

 

This week’s High School Game of the Week features the Churchville-Chili Saints (1-11-0) taking on the WFL Panthers (5-7-2) tonight at 4:40 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena.

 

The Saints enter tonight’s matchup looking to complete a season-series sweep WFL following a 5-3 victory back on Dec. 15. Churchville-Chili scored once in the first period against the Panthers last month before adding two tallies each in the second and third periods.

 

After leading all Section V players last season in points (50) while also pacing the Saints in goals (28), Parker Farnham returns to the Saints in 2023-24. The forward leads the club in points again through the first 12 games of the season.

 

Jake Herring leads all Saints in goals (12) while Jesse Prue tops the team in assists (12). The duo, along with Farnham, (20) are the only three Churchville-Chili players to reach double figures in points.

 

Cole Wilson (1-8-0) and Liam Magri (0-3-0) have split the goaltending duties for the Saints as they have appeared in 20 games and combined for 316 saves. Johanna Hamann has appeared in two contests, making six saves.

 

The Saints are led by head coach Brian Young and assistant coaches Austin Kuntz, James Wisner, Anthony Depetres.

 

WPL is eyeing its third straight win following a pair of contests where they outscored the opposition 10-2. The Panthers show a 2-5-1 mark when serving as the home club this season and are 3-2-1 on the road.

 

Colin Trapiss paces all WFL skaters in goals (14), assists (10) and points (24) while Jack McCormack (15) and Clark Mauchly (10) also have reached double figures in points this season. Besides Trapiss, McCormack and Mauchly, nine other Panthers have scored at least one goal while 12 others have recorded a point or more through 14 contests.

 

The Panthers have used a trio of goaltenders with Jace Ingram (2-5-0) and Seth Taylor (3-1-2) handling most of the duties. While Ingram has made 256 saves in eight appearances, Taylor has posted one shutout in six games. Nathan Zimmerman (0-1-0) has stopped 48 shots in two contests.

 

WPL is led by head coach Francis Shaw and assistant coach Zac Akin.

 

Following Monday’s matchup, the Panthers heads to McCarthy Memorial Ice Arena in Batavia and will face Batavia Notre Dame United on Tuesday, Jan. 30 at 6:00 p.m. Churchville-Chili will then host Irondequoit for a 7:00 p.m. faceoff on Tuesday, Jan. 23 at Lakeshore Arena.
