This week’s High School Game of the Week sees Batavia of Notre Dame take on WFL Panthers in an Independent Division matchup at the Geneva Recreation Center.

Both teams enter the week coming off losses in their most recent matchups, with Batavia coming up on the short end of a 5-3 setback to the Portside Royals and the Panthers dropping a 7-1 decision to Aquinas.

Batavia is off to a 2-2-0 start through their first four games of the season with both wins coming on home ice, including a 13-8 rout of Potsdam back on Dec. 4. The Panthers, meanwhile, are 1-2-0 so far this season with their lone win coming back on Dec. 2 in a 7-5 victory over Geneseo/Avon/Livonia.

Batavia forward Gavin Schrader has been one of the most dominant and consistent point-getters this season in Section V. Schrader’s explosive start to the season has him leading the United in all offensive categories, including goals (8), assists (8) and points (16) while averaging four points per game. He’s one of just two Batavia skaters to register at least one point in all four games and holds single-game records for most goals (5) and points (8), a mark he set in the 13-8 win over Potsdam.

Leading the WFL offense is third-year forward Lucas Springer, who paces the Panthers with four goals and three assists for seven points in three games. He’s coming off back-to-back to multi-point outings, including hat trick in the 7-5 win over Geneseo/Avon/Livonia.

Following tonight, WFL will face-off against Aquinas in back-to-back meetings while Batavia begins a three-game homestand leading up to the annual Christmas break.
