AMERKS WRAP UP PRESEASON TONIGHT IN UTICA

The Rochester Americans are back in action tonight for their final tune-up contest as they hit the road to face the intrastate rival Utica Comets at the Adirondack Bank Center. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
Following tonight’s matchup, the Amerks and Comets, who enter their third season as the primary affiliate of the New Jersey Devils, will meet a total of 12 times during the 2023-24 regular season, beginning when the cross-town foes meet later this month in Utica to close the month of October.
After the Oct. 28 contest at 7:00 p.m., the teams meet three times before Nov. 11. The North Division rivals will close out their season-series with a contest on April 21 on the final day of the regular season.
HEAD-TO-HEAD RESULTS AGAINST UTICA
After earning just a pair of wins through the first five games of the season series with the Comets in 2022-23, Rochester finished the campaign with a 7-3-0-0 record in 10 games.
The Amerks closed out the road porion of the season series with a 5-1-0-0 record, a stretch highlighted by five straight wins after dropping their first contest in Utica. Four of the five wins came by one goal, including three straight shootout victories.
Both teams finished 2022-23 with 18 home victories during the regular season before closing out the year with nearly identical records. They also each had more than 20 wins when scoring the game’s first goal.
PRESEASON AT A GLANCE
The Amerks kicked off their preseason schedule with a 4-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch Thursday at The Blue Cross Arena.
Rochester stormed out to a 4-0 lead on the strength of a multi-point outing from rookie defenseman Zach Metsa (1+1), while Michael Mersch, Filip Cederqvist and Damien Giroux all netted one goal each.
Goaltender Devin Cooley, who carried a shutout into the final 20 minutes of regulation, stopped 28 of the 30 shots he faced to earn the victory.
AMERKS HOME OPENER SET FOR FRIDAY, OCTOBER 13
Rochester begins its 68th American Hockey League season, presented exclusively by Seneca Niagara Resort & Casino, at home on Friday, Oct. 13 against the Bridgeport Islanders at The Blue Cross Arena.
