AMERKS MOURN THE LOSS OF LONGTIME BUS DRIVER DAVE GEREW

Sep 7, 2021

The Rochester Americans are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dave Gerew (pictured far right kneeling in white hat).

A longtime Amerks season ticket member, Gerew became the team’s official bus driver in the 1980s following a 20-year career in law enforcement as a Monroe County Sheriff’s Deputy. Known for his trademark firm handshake, he held the post through parts of three decades and was the team’s bus driver when the Amerks won their most recent Calder Cup in 1996.

“We never looked at Dave as our bus driver, but as family,” said Amerks Hall of Famer Jody Gage. “He always took a lot of pride in getting us where we needed to be and back home safely and enjoyed every second of it. He was a big part of team’s success, and he will be truly missed.”

The Amerks organization extends its deepest condolences to his friends and family during this extremely difficult time.
