VICTOR CRUISES TO 7-0 WIN OVER PENFIELD

Over the next several weeks, the Rochester Americans will be front and center on the local high school hockey scene as part of a weekly series that will feature the latest news and notes, scores and stats of select Section V games around the Greater Rochester Area. 

This week’s High School Game of the Week featured saw five Victor Blue Devils (2-1-0) players record multi-point efforts in a 7-0 rout over Penfield (1-2-0) Tuesday night at Webster Ice Arena.

Victor sophomores Simon Kowal (2+0) and Caleb Clark (2+0) tallied a pair of goals, while seniors Jackson Guck (1+1) and Drew McCandless (0+2), and junior Christopher Donnelly (0+2) all produced a pair of points in the win. Junior forwards Tanner Radoga and Paul Corriere both scored one goal each while Max Pitts (2-1-0) made his third appearance of the season in-between the pipes. The junior netminder stopped all 20 shots he faced to earn the shutout.

Penfield suffered its first shutout of the campaign after splitting its first two games versus Portside and McQuaid Jesuit. Goaltender Abby Seaman, who recently committed to UMASS Boston, made her third appearance of the season. The senior netminder stopped seven shots in 25 minutes before leaving the game due to an injury. Junior Thomas Herman made 17 saves in 26 minutes in relief.

In the opening period, the Patriots had their best chance of the frame to take an early one-goal lead, however, the shot rang off the post at the 13:28 mark.

Shortly after, Clark scored twice to give the Blue Devils a 2-0 lead before the end of the first period.

On his first of the night, Donnelly was credited with the lone helper before McCandless picked up his assist as he fired an initial shot on Clark’s second of the period with 11:10 remaining in the frame.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the break, Victor doubled its lead in the middle frame as Kowal scored back-to-back goals five minutes apart.

Later in the period, Victor successfully killed off a pair of penalties before Guck made it a 5-0 score after the second period.

The Blue Devils scored twice in the third period as Corriere and Radogna rounded out the 7-0 victory.

Penfield will look to rebound as they take on Potsdam Central at Canton Central High School for a 7:30 p.m. matchup on Thursday, Dec. 8 while Victor battles Hilton in a 7:00 p.m. faceoff on Friday, Dec. 9.

Next week’s High School’s Game of the Week will feature Pittsford and facing off against Portside on Tuesday, Dec. 13 for a 6:30 p.m. contest at Bill Gray’s Iceplex.
