ROCHESTER 1 0 2 1 -- 4
BINGHAMTON 1 2 0 0 -- 3

(Rochester, NY) … The Rochester Americans (11-5-2-1) trailed the Binghamton Devils (6-9-3-0) by a 3-1 score entering the third period, but two quick goals in a 4:04 span followed by the game-winner from Casey Nelson capped a 4-3 come-from-behind overtime win for Amerks to conclude the two-game sweep over the Devils Saturday at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

With the win, the Amerks improved to 6-1-2-1 in their last 10 games while collecting 21 out of a possible 28 points dating back to Oct. 25. They also hold a record of 7-1-2-1 through 11 games in the month of November.

Zach Redmond opened the scoring 1:52 into the game for the Amerks and later added an assist to give him six points (2+4) over his last six games while Kevin Porter chipped in a pair of helpers to push his point streak to three games. Rookies Brendan Guhle and C.J. Smith tallied their fifth and sixth goals of the season, respectively, and Adam Wilcox earned his second victory of the slate, stopping 16 of 19 shots.

Rookie forward Blake Spears notched his first-career multi-point (1+1) effort for the Devils, who dropped their third-straight overtime game this season. Kevin Rooney and Yaroslav Dyblenko rounded out the scoring for Binghamton. Meanwhile, goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood, who made his fourth straight start, took the overtime loss.

With the puck along the left half-wall and the scored tied at 3-3, Porter centered a pass between the face-off circles to Nelson, who jumped up to join the rush less than two minutes into the overtime period. The defenseman took a few strides and cradled the puck before ripping the game-winner past the blocker of Blackwood to lift the Amerks to the 4-3 overtime win.

The contest was Rochester’s eighth game to go beyond regulation this season, which are most in the AHL.

After Redmond scored his third goal of the season from Sahir Gill and Evan Rodrigues, who has nine points (2+7) in his last seven games dating back to the 2016-17 campaign, the two teams’ special teams units would be responsible for the game’s next four goals.

Bracken Kearns and the Devils held their own blueline and forced a turnover while shorthanded near center ice. Kearns raced into the Amerks zone with Speers on a two-on-one rush before Speers tied the game at the 11:36 mark of the first period.

The two clubs went into the break tied but the Amerks held a 10-5 shot advantage after the first 20 minutes of play.

Following a holding the stick penalty on the Amerks, the Devils quickly grabbed their first lead of the contest as Dyblenko fired home his first of the season with 9:04 to play in the middle stanza.

Binghamton doubled its lead as Rooney banged in a loose rebound moments after an Amerks penalty. The shorthanded tally with 2:47 left in the frame gave the Devils a 3-1 lead.

Despite trailing by a pair, the Amerks trimmed the Devils lead as Guhle rifled a one-time feed from Porter and Nick Baptiste 11:41 into the final frame. The power-play marker was the Amerks fifth in the last three games, going 5-for-17 (29.4%) during that span.

Following a pair of penalties four seconds apart, the teams skated four-on-four for 1:56 with less than six minutes remaining in the contest. Smith stick-handed his way into the Devils zone before snapping his sixth marker of the season underneath the cross-bar to tie the game at 3-3 at the 14:45 mark. The rookie forward now shares the team-lead in goals and is third amongst all first-year skaters in the AHL with 19 points (6+13).

The Amerks and Devils needed overtime but Rochester began the extra period down a player for the first 23 seconds following a boarding infraction late in the third. Rochester successfully killed off the penalty before Nelson scored his second goal of the season for the 4-3 win.

Rochester closes out the month of November on Wednesday, Nov. 29 when they travel to Adirondack Bank Center for a North Division showdown with the Utica Comets. The game will be carried live on The Sports Leader 95.7 FM/950 AM ESPN Rochester.
