(Rochester, NY) - Rochester Americans General Manager Randy Sexton announced today that the team has recalled defenseman Matthew Spencer from the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL).
Spencer, 22, has registered 14 points (0+14) in 32 games this season with Cincinnati after being acquired by the Buffalo Sabres from the Tampa Bay Lightning on Nov. 24. He also appeared in two contests with the Syracuse Crunch, recording an assist.
A native of Guelph, Ontario, Spencer has dressed in 53 AHL games with the Crunch, collecting seven points (1+6) while also skating in 85 career ECHL contests with Adirondack, Cincinnati, and Orlando, adding 32 points on four goals and 28 assists.
Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-2, 206-pound blueliner played four seasons in the Ontario Hockey League for the Peterborough Petes, where he amassed 98 points (19+79) in 251 games.
Spencer was a second-round pick (44th overall) of the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2015 NHL Draft.
