The Rochester Americans announced today the preliminary roster of players expected to participate in the Sabres vs. Amerks Alumni game at the Greater Rochester Area Honda Dealers Frozen Frontier presented by Labatt. The Alumni Game, which is part of the 10-day outdoor hockey festival at Frontier Field, is scheduled for Sunday, Dec. 15 at 5:00 p.m.
Among those scheduled to take part are players who have provided some of the greatest moments in the history of the Amerks and Sabres, from Sabres and Amerks Hall of Famers to Calder Cup champions and former captains of both teams. The following Alumni members are currently scheduled to participate in the Alumni Game:
Kevin Bolibruck, Paul Brydges, David Cullen, Randy Cunneyworth, Daryl Drader, Richie Dunn, Dan Frawley, Jody Gage, Danny Gare, Jim Jackson, Yuri Khmylev, Steve Langdon, Grant Ledyard, Ray Maluta, Brad May, Brian McKinnon, Scott Metcalfe, Craig Muni, Scott Nichol, Andrew Peters, Geoff Peters, Rob Ray, Ric Seiling, Darryl Shannon, Derek Smith, Chris Taylor and Jim Wiemer.
More players are expected to be added to the rosters leading up to the event.
“For every player, playing hockey outdoors brings back all the memories of being a kid, so the Frozen Frontier Alumni game is a very exciting opportunity,” said Amerks Hall of Famer Jody Gage. “I am really looking forward to seeing all the former Amerks and Sabres in the game, some of whom probably haven’t seen each other since their playing days.”
“The Frozen Frontier Alumni Game is something that Amerks and Sabres Alumni from Western New York and beyond are all looking forward to immensely,” said former Amerk and Sabre Rob Ray. “While we all grew up playing the game outdoors, the chance to play hockey at a first-class ballpark like Frontier Field will be a truly unique experience for many of us.”
Tickets for the Sabres-Amerks Alumni Game can be purchased for $10 (Limited View), $15 (100 level) or $25 and are now available online at FrozenFrontier2013.com. Some players will be available for an autograph session prior to the game; more information will be available at a later date.
In addition to the Alumni Game, there will be five other hockey games during the opening weekend of the Greater Rochester Area Honda Dealers Frozen Frontier presented by Labatt. The Amerks kick-off the 10-day outdoor hockey festival with a game against the Lake Erie Monsters on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7:05 p.m. The following day features an RIT doubleheader as the RIT women’s hockey team plays host to Clarkson at 12 p.m. before the men’s team welcomes Niagara to Frontier Field at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, before the Alumni take the ice at 5:00 p.m., the Nazareth Golden Flyers will take on the Geneseo Knights in another college hockey game before the Buffalo Junior Sabres face-off with the St. Michael’s Buzzers in an Ontario Junior Hockey League matchup.
