Marathon 15-round shootout When the Lake Erie Monsters visited The Blue Cross Arena on Feb. 25 for a Saturday night tilt, the two teams were separated by just two points in the standings and battling to stay in playoff contention. Playing their fourth home game of the week, a long week for the Amerks would get even longer. With the score tied at the conclusion of overtime, the teams then embarked on a 15-round shootout, the longest in franchise history, before Igor Gongalsky scored the game-winner on a nifty backhand. The 15-round shootout defeated a falling-down goal by Marcus Foligno in Round 1 of the Moment of the Year tournament.
Whitmore Four-Goal Game Rochester native Derek Whitmore recorded a career-high 28 goals this season, with four of them coming in dramatic fashion on Nov. 26. With six members of the Amerks playing for the Sabres in Buffalo that night, the Amerks were shorthanded and in need of a spark. Whitmore provided that spark, scoring four times to lead Rochester to a 5-3 victory and becoming the first Amerk player to score at least four goals in a game since Jason Pominville scored five times on Oct. 21, 2005. Whitmore's four-goal game defeated a blue-line snipe by TJ Brennan in Round 1 of the contest.
