An organizational and statistical ‘By the Numbers’ look at the dozen players who split time between the Buffalo Sabres and Rochester Americans during the 2011-12 season.
BY THE NUMBERS
12
The Amerks saw 12 different players summoned to the big club over the course of the season as eight forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender all suited up for at least one game with the Sabres. The group combined for 157 total man games, recording 65 points on 23 goals and 42 assists. Luke Adam, who started the season with the Sabres, recorded 20 points (10+10) in 52 games for Buffalo, while rookie forward Marcus Foligno finished with an impressive 13 points (6+7) in 14 games, the most among any Amerk to earn an NHL promotion.

Of the lucky dozen to skate with the Sabres in 2011-12, eight made their National Hockey League debuts, marking the first time since the 2006-07 campaign eight different Buffalo rookies graced an NHL lineup for the Sabres in the same season.

Buffalo had six different players score their first career NHL goals this season: Corey Tropp, T.J. Brennan, Zack Kassian, Brayden McNabb, Marcus Foligno and Travis Turnbull. The last time six different players scored their first goal for the Sabres was 1992-93: Richard Smehlik, Viktor Gordiouk, Yuri Khmylev, Scott Thomas, Doug MacDonald and Matthew Barnaby. Brennan, however, was the only one to do so in his first NHL game, becoming the first Sabres defenseman to accomplish the feat since Buffalo Head Coach Lindy Ruff did so back on Oct. 11, 1979.
