The Rochester Americans announced today that Rory Fitzpatrick, a former Amerk captain and Buffalo Sabres defenseman, will appear at the next Seneca Casinos Legends Night.  Fitzpatrick will attend the Amerks’ game versus the Binghamton Senators on Friday, March 9 to sign autographs prior to the game and drop the ceremonial first puck.
The Seneca Casinos Legends Series is now in its third year and has already featured appearances by hockey greats Danny Gare, Jason Pominville and Joe Crozier this season.  The guest for the final Seneca Casinos Legends Night of the season, which is scheduled for Friday, March 30, will be announced at a later date.
Fitzpatrick, a native of Irondequoit, played in more than 800 professional games during his career, which began in 1995 with the Fredericton Canadiens and saw him retire as an Amerk following the 2009-10 season.  A second round draft pick (47th overall) by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft during a standout junior hockey career with the OHL’s Sudbury Wolves, Fitzpatrick played 16 professional seasons in the NHL, AHL and IHL.
The defenseman played in 287 career NHL games with Montreal, St. Louis, Nashville, Buffalo, Vancouver and Philadelphia, recording 10 goals, 25 assists and 201 penalty minutes.  He also appeared in 20 career Stanley Cup Playoff games and helped the Sabres advance to the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals, collecting four assists in 11 games during Buffalo’s memorable playoff run that saw the team come within one game of advancing to the Stanley Cup Finals.  Fitzpatrick also played in 474 career AHL games, including 211 with Rochester, and finished with 158 points (39+119) and 648 penalty minutes.  He was a three-time AHL All-Star (1997, 1998 and 2009), winning the Hardest Shot competition in 1997 and serving as captain for the PlanetUSA team in 2009.
