The Rochester Americans announced today that the team has signed forward Kyle Ostrow of the ECHL’s Chicago Express to a professional tryout.

Ostrow, 24, has appeared in 44 games for Chicago this season, scoring 10 goals and adding 17 assists for 27 points. The 5-foot-10, 175-pound first-year pro played in five American Hockey League games last season with the Portland Pirates following the completion of his collegiate career.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, Ostrow played four seasons (2007-11) at the University of Denver (WCHA), where he registered 105 points on 55 goals and 50 assists in 158 career games with the Pioneers. Ostrow served as Denver’s team captain during the 2010-11 campaign, leading the Pioneers to their fourth consecutive NCAA tournament berth on his way to earning the Bill Masterton Memorial Award as Denver’s Most Valuable Player.

The Rochester Americans and Abbotsford Heat square off for the second time in as many nights tonight as the two teams complete the first half of their season series in the back-end of a two-game set at The Blue Cross Arena. The 7:35 p.m. contest will be the second of nine at home this month for the Amerks, who have six games in 11 days to start the month of February. Fans can tune into the live broadcast on 107.3 FM and 1280 AM, Rochester’s Sports Talk.
