The American Hockey League announced today that Rochester Americans left wing Derek Whitmore has been selected as the winner of the reGen™ Muscle Recovery Beverage/AHL Performance of the Month award for November.
Whitmore, in front of dozens of friends and family in attendance, scored a career-best four goals (two in the first, two in the third), including two in the first 1:53 of the contest, to power the Amerks to a 5-3 win over the Hamilton Bulldogs on November 26 at The Blue Cross Arena. The game also featured Whitmore’s first career hat trick as he single-handedly outscored the Bulldogs on his way to becoming the first Amerks player to net four goals since Jason Pominville’s five-goal outing against Cleveland on Oct. 21, 2005.
In recognition of his reGen™/AHL Performance of the Month award, Whitmore will be honored prior to Rochester’s home game on Friday, December 9 vs. the Albany Devils.
Whitmore has scored 11 goals and added 6 assists for 17 points in 23 games for the Americans this season. The fifth-year pro is from the Rochester suburb of Greece, N.Y., and has played in 266 AHL games in his career. Altogether, he has racked up 68 goals and 53 assists, for a total of 121 points.
