The recent Rochester weather makes it hard to believe that it was exactly two years ago (Dec. 13, 2013) when the Rochester Americans played their first-ever outdoor game in the historic Frozen Frontier at Frontier Field. Snowy conditions during the morning skate gave way to clear skies and frigid 18-degree temperatures that evening when the Amerks faced-off with the Lake Erie Monsters.
A back-and-forth game featured multiple lead changes, a buzzer-beating goal by Lake Erie, and a comeback in the shootout that gave Rochester a dramatic victory. Matt Ellis played the role of hero, scoring the game's first goal and then netting the shootout winner. His efforts famously resulted in a recall to the Buffalo Sabres immediately after the game.
