Just prior to the opening face-off of Thursday night’s game between the Rochester Americans and Oklahoma City Barons, the Amerks welcomed their 100,000th fan of the 2011-12 season. It took just 19 home games to get there, and the occasion merited balloons, prizes and a visit from Mr. Amerk, Jody Gage.
Churchville resident Sue Ludwicki was the lucky fan to represent No. 100,000. Upon passing through the gate, she was presented with an autographed team jersey and stick, along with suite tickets for her and her family who accompanied her to the game to enjoy.
“It was very shocking,” Sue said during the first intermission from the suite level. “I was running late to the game waiting for my family, the snow was coming down, and I was trying to get into the game, then they told me I was the 100,000th fan.”
Ludwicki noted that she grew up in the area and, along with her family, has followed the Amerks closely over the years.
“We follow the team, we have had season tickets sporadically over the years, and we were even here when they won the Calder Cup Championship in 1996, it was awesome.”
Hopefully, Thursday night’s experience added to her list of memorable moments at The Blue Cross Arena.
