AMERKS RECALL PAIR OF DEFENSEMEN FROM CYCLONES

(Rochester, NY)
– Rochester Americans General Manager Randy Sexton announced today that the team has recalled defensemen Brycen Martin and Devante Stephens from the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL).

Stephens, 20, earns his second recall of the campaign after making his AHL debut in Rochester’s 5-2 win over the Laval Rocket on Oct. 25. The rookie defenseman has also appeared in eight games with Cincinnati, adding one assist.

Prior to turning pro, the 6-foot-1, 176-pound blueliner played three seasons with the Kelowna Rockets, recording 57 points (19+38) and a plus-56 rating in 203 career WHL games. He set career-highs in goals (13), assists (22) and points (35) last season and helped the Rockets capture the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions during his rookie campaign in 2014-15.
Martin, 21, has appeared in 10 games to begin the season with the Cyclones, notching one goal and two assists.

A native of Calgary, Alberta, the second-year pro split the 2016-17 campaign between the Amerks and the Elmira Jackals of the ECHL. In 44 games between the two clubs, Martin accounted for a pair of goals and seven assists.

Prior turning pro, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound defenseman played five years with the Swift Current Broncos and the Saskatoon Blades of the Western Hockey League, tallying 131 points (21+110) in 277 career games.
Martin was originally drafted by the Buffalo Sabres in the third-round (74th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
